Whether you are a fan of 4e, Pathfinder, OD&D, RuneQuest, Vampire, or whatever, there's some good news. It looks like MMOs, and World of Warcraft in particular, have at worst had no effect on RPGs, and may have even helped grow the hobby.
Wasn't it just a few years ago that everyone was bemoaning the impending death of tabletop RPGs? In the aftermath of the past week, such talk seems a little silly.
Of course, that doesn't mean that creators should just assume that RPGs are invincible, but I think we can finally shelve talk that WoW is going to wipe out the hobby. I've always maintained that if the hobby fades, we'll only have ourselves to blame. As long as we keep pushing the envelope, we'll be OK.
Of course, that's far easier said than done. I think I'm going to go fall over in the corner, now. Three years is a heck of a long time.
